Services

Kate provides psychological services to adults, parents and adolescents 18 years and over.

She adopts a supportive, down to earth but professional approach, having the utmost respect for confidentiality and individual differences.

Kate relies on evidence-based therapies along with her ability to form strong therapeutic relationships, with the aim of working with people in a very non-judgemental way to reach their therapeutic goals and long term wellness.

Please note Kate does not provide services for:

  • Court reports and assessments
  • Intelligence testing
  • Work capacity assessments

If this requirement forms part or all of your therapeutic goal(s), Kate can refer you to another clinical psychologist who specialises in assessments/reports/documentation for legal or insurance requirements.

When working with adults Kate treats emotional issues, behavioural issues and a range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, personality/relational difficulties, anger and post-traumatic stress disorder (please see areas of treatment on the home page). Treatment typically involves a thorough assessment, followed by psychological education, strategies aimed at behaviour change, relaxation strategies, mindfulness techniques and learning new skills to become aware of, and manage negative automatic thoughts. She often employs therapies that incorporate experiential techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and imagery as a part of Schema Therapy aimed at shifting negative core beliefs that cause dysfunction in our lives.

Kate is a trauma-informed clinician with a very strong background in working with both single incident and complex trauma. She first trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (trauma processing) in 2006 and has since completed both advanced training in EMDR, and EMDR with children and adolescents. PTSD and complex trauma can be debilitating conditions, however EMDR is a very effective treatment in processing trauma, allowing people to recover and move on with their lives.

Kate has a special interest in working with parents experiencing difficulties within the infant/child-parent relationship, or those simply wanting to learn more about how to create secure attachment with their children. She has undergone extensive training in the Circle of Security attachment-based model of parenting, and has worked both individually and with groups of parents using this model since 2009. Kate also uses Dan Hughes attachment-based parenting strategies.

Having grown up in Esperance, and spending many years in the Southwest before working in both the Pilbara and Esperance-Goldfields regions for ten years, Kate has a well developed understanding of, and affinity with rural and regional communities and their unique challenges. She is passionate about providing clinical psychology services by Telehealth for people in rural and remote areas who may otherwise be unable to access clinical psychology services. Medicare rebates are available under a GP Mental Health Care Plan for people in eligible rural and remote areas.

Having worked on a fly-in fly-out basis in the mining industry, Kate has a good understanding of the complex issues facing FIFO workers and their families. Therapy for FIFO workers and/or their partners can assist in keeping mental health, and relationships strong and stable.

Kate provides therapeutic treatment in relation to Workers Compensation and Motor Vehicle Accident claims. Please discuss a referral for psychological treatment with your GP and with your insurer.
